Undergraduate Diploma in Hospitality

 

The courses are developed in response to meet the needs of candidates seeking employment in the Indian and the International Hospitality Industry. It provides a vocationally appropriate course of education delivered in a part time structure that is intellectually challenging and will prepare students for a career in the Hotel Industry, by providing the students with the following:

  • Develop academic ability and competence appropriate for an operational career in the hospitality industry.

  • Develop an understanding of the management disciplines within the context of hospitality the hospitality industry and its global environment.

  • Develop technical competency, interpersonal skills and knowledge in the core areas of hospitality.

  • Acquire relevant skills for the management of technical operations, and engage with the hospitality consumer and service encounter.

  • Demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills, work effectively independently and with others and take responsibility for their own learning and continuing personal and professional development.

  • Recognise and respond to moral, ethical, sustainability and safety issues, which directly pertain to the context of study including relevant legislation and professional codes of conduct.

  • The course structure will build and develop the students’ intellectual capabilities and skills applicable to the day-to-day operations in the hospitality industry. Intellectual progression will be achieved by increasing the breadth and complexity of the subject disciplines as students progress through the course.

 

Course Learning Outcomes:

During the course of study, students will:

  • Support personal and professional standards for honesty, values, and ethical decision-making.

  • Build up a framework of analysis to enable a student to identify central issues and problems in complex, comprehensive situations, to suggest alternative courses of action, and to present well supported detailed recommendations for future action.

  • Learn how to bridge the gap between theory and practice by developing an understanding of when and how to apply concepts and techniques learned.

  • Obtain knowledge of Hospitality Management issues and the global economy.

  • Obtain knowledge of the industrial structure of Hospitality Management and Tourism

  • Be able to apply this knowledge to a range of Hospitality Management and Tourism management issues.

  • Understand the technical and operational aspects of hospitality organisations.

  • Understand the marketing, finance and human resources context of hospitality management.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to provide learning evidence in:

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, critical analysis, and creative   thinking

  • Recognise and develop a range of solutions to operational problems within hospitality businesses.

  • Use and apply a range of techniques to analyse strategic as well as operational situations.

  • Develop appropriate strategic responses to particular business situations.

  • Assemble and synthesise data from a variety of sources and present reasoned arguments.

  • Critically analyse appropriate literature from a range of disciplines.

  • Analyse corporate case studies using a range of skills and techniques.

  • Eligibility to the Under Graduate Programme a candidate must have successfully completed +2 of the 10 + 2 system or its equivalent in any discipline with English as medium of instruction.
